My Study in Photography

Annie Leibovitz was b orn on October 2, 1949 in Waterbury, CT.  She in mostly known for her celebrity portraits and her incredible ability to capture the inner essence and personality of her subjects. She has worked for big name such as  Rolling Stone  magazine,  Vanity Fair  and  Vogue. Leibovitz also  became the first woman in history to hold a solo exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.

Richard Avedon was born on May 15, 1923 in New York City.  Avedon  was best known for his work in the fashion  industry  and favored a minimalist  style with portraits. He started off working  for the Merchant Marines, taking identification photos, but went on to take photos for  Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. Avedon was an expert at getting models to convey strong emotion and movement through his method of photography.

Margaret Bourke-White was a photographer born in New York City, primarily known for her photos taken of victims of the dust bowl and working for Life magazine. During her career she completed many impressive fetes including being  the first foreign photographer to take pictures of Soviet industry,  was the only Western photographer to witness the German invasion of Moscow in 1941, and  she was the first woman to accompany Air Corps crews on bombing missions in 1942 ( www.icp.org,  Margaret Bourke-White ) .

Ansel Adams was a photographer and environmentalist born in San Francisco, California. Ansel dedicated his life to capturing the beauty on this world in the hopes of protecting it. He traveled the country to expose the magnificent landscapes and scenery to the public and played a big part in making sure we are still enjoying them today. "H e is regarded by environmentalists as a monument himself, and by photographers as a national institution" (William Turnage, Ansel Adams Phorographer ).
